Today, Mauritian artists excel in a number of arts, from photography to painting to sculpting. Their art incorporates a mix of African, Asian, European, and Arab styles and influences. Galerie du Moulin Cassé is one of the island’s best known galleries, primarily featuring the distinctive paintings of Malcolm de Chazal and the nature photographs of Diane Henry in its two permanent exhibitions. Housed in a heritage sugar mill, is art-loving guest invited to experiences the galleries photographs and oil and watercolor paintings by local artists. This old gallery located in Pereybèré is full of amazing and unique architecture. It is also registered with the historic heritage of Mauritius. Built in 1820, it consists of two magnificent arches made of red clay pottery made in a mortar of lime and sand. The most impressive display, however, is the collection of over 20,000 terracotta pots lining the vaulted arcs of the ceiling.
